Crochet flower Greeting card and a simple earring.

by bindu 22. March 2010 16:35

Sometimes things will get complicated. When you really wanted to send a greetings card for some one you really love, the store bought one is not enough. To me, I need to spend time and create one. That is what I did with this one. I can't resist the temptation to show it off in Bindu Blogs, you know.

The crochet flower and the leaves are perfect for this one.

What do you think? The gold color border is from the paper ribbon I kept for no particular reason. I loved the way the card turned out.

From that success, I decided to try a beaded earring. Look at this page in Mahalo. I have a widget here.

That is the way I did this earring. I got a new pair to go with my green T-shirt. Also, I made one for my daughter's friend. I will show the one I made for myself.

Crochet cushion cover

by bindu 3. March 2010 19:19

I was just away from Bindu blogs. I want to show the cushion cover I made. Also want to share a tip about freezing potatoes.Remember the article about money saving freezer? I needed to mention that if you got a big bag of potatoes and want to freeze them you can do it. Just boil the potatoes. Remember to start with cold water. If you put the potatoes in boiling water the inside is not going to get cooked well. After that, cool them, peel them cube them and freeze them. Good to make mashed potatoes and soups!!!.

Here is a granny square I made in pale blue. It is used to made a crochet cushion front .

It is just very pale. But I am glad that my experiment is successful. I used a square cloth to make the back and hand sewed them together. I know, my cushion needs some good colorful friends to cheer up. May be I can add some flowers on them...

Granny Square

by bindu 6. February 2010 04:14
I was figuring out granny square crochet. It is very intriguing to start with a circle and end with a square. I was able to whip up a simple pattern. I made the pink center and next rounds are in white and blue.

Look at the baby pink petals which forms a circle. The petals are made with 3 dc's together. I need to make them in to squares to make something. Did I do a good job? I think so!

Then I went on with doing another round of blue and decided to join them while make the squares.

What I think is, by the end of the weekend, I will whip up something interesting. The pattern for the granny square is like this: chain 6. slip stich to form a circle. Make 2 chains, make 2 dc together. Chain 2. 3 dc together, chain 3. Do this to make 8 petals all together. Then join with a slip stitch. Fasten off. With white yarn, make 3 chains in any 2 chain space(Count as first dc). Make 2dc in the same space. Chain 3, and make make 3 more dc in the same space. Chain 2, skip two petals of round 1 and make another 3 dc chain3 , 3dc on the chain 2 space. Repeat it to make 4 groups of (3dc, chain3, 3dc). Now we have a square.

Crochet Balls

by bindu 3. February 2010 22:19

I was surfing the net for some reasons. Came to the Bittersweet Blog to check some recipes. There is the delicious Cheesy Broccoli soup. It is worth to check it out. i promise!!. I am thinking about making that for the weekend.

I was so taken by the the crocheted rainbow colored balls in Etsy by Bethanyactually. I was able to make some crocheted balls. Actually I was experimenting with different yarns to create some balls with stripe in the middle. That works pretty well.Look on the one made with self patterning cotton yarn!

Now I wanted to create the balls in different colors.

There are some more in different colors and one without any stripe. The different yarns make different sizes. I used size3 crochet hook for all of them. Don't you love them all?

Remember the crochet flowers in Bindu Blogs the other day? I made three of them with crochet cotton. Now the three crochet pink flowers are embellishing my plain old black T-shirt. You know, I love this  one. But it is old. Now it looks pretty with few flowers. I used the pink embroidery floss to stitch them. It was done carefully, by stitching through the back of the petals.

Here is the final product for your perusal!!

Crocheting flowers

by bindu 29. January 2010 22:39

I wanted some quick and easy crocheting projects for Bindu Blogs today to get the instant satisfaction. So I thought about crocheting flowers. I used to make flowers to stitch on the cushions and towels.

Today I was thinking of making a greetings card with crocheted flower and leaves. Made a flower using size 10 crochet cotton and 2 leaves. I stitch them together to form a single piece. Since the center shows a small round, I added a sequin and a small bead. Look at this!!!

The pattern is found on you tube. After making the leaves, I want to make some leaves in light green also.

After working with that one I got the idea to create another flower with Bernat cool Crochet yarn. I will write the pattern in some time later. Because, I haven't write it down properly yet. Here is the picture for you to view.

Hope, you liked the todays Bindu Blogs. Think of the pretty pink flower on a winter cap!!! Better yet on a brown T-shirt...My imaginations going wild!!!

Crochet and other simple things

by bindu 28. January 2010 04:43

Another day of crocheting. That doesn't mean I didn't have some other simple pleasures!

I am a lover of hot chocolate, especially on a cold clouded day like today.  A cup of hot chocolate, just sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon....It is my heavenly pleasure!!!

My daughter had to leave earlier than usual. Hubby was dropping her off at the school. That means an extra hour of silence at  home with crocheting bliss. My MC blankie is getting bigger. I didn't take a picture of it yet.It will come to the Bindu Blogs later. I promise you. I was making more crochet hearts though. I love to make some more. But my mind wanders some time when I should be counting. So it takes many frustrating unraveling and redoing to make one big heart. My small hearts are easy though. I hope to make some more before the valentines day. Hubby already wanted one for himself. If you are wondering about the pattern, it is in the new "Crochet Today" magazine. The pattern for small hearts, I found on the net some time before. I don't have the link now. Hope to post it in later Bindu Blogs.

New crocheted Jewelry

by bindu 26. January 2010 21:33

I was just surfing on the net and found many crocheting blogs. I am amazed by the projects they are doing.Futuregirl, Attic 24, Crafty pants, Posie gets Cozy are some of the inspiring blogs for the Bindu Blogs.

I got the book Hooked On Jewelry from the library. The book is so delicious to look. After drooling over all the projects, I tried to make a tubular crochet earring. I can't figure out how to do it with the crochet thread and a steel hook. So I decided to make a bracelet with some beads from my stash. I happened to have some candy striped beads, which is easy to thread on a size 10 crochet thread.  I did one line of beaded single crochet. It is too thin. So decided to make another strand of beaded crochet. Then make them connected with some of the findings.

I am happy with my final product.

I also made a necklace from the book. The book has a long necklace. I made a small one for the Bindu Blogs, because, to make longer one I need to buy more rings. For that I really have to go out to the mall. That means, I will end up in spending more time and money there. I better make some coffee and dream about my future projects. Oops!! I almost forgot to put the necklace picture. Here it is!! The pattern doesn't mention to connect the rings with jump rings. But I think, it must be connected with jump rings to make the chain lie flat on the neck. I need to adjust mine to make it flat. Hooked on Jewelry has many interesting projects. Basic jewelry making skills are necessary to finish many projects. The project named "Victorian Elegance" is my dream project. It does not call for tubular crochet. So I hope to try it one day.

Crocheted Amigurumi

by bindu 17. January 2010 02:52

Today is amigurumi day on Bindu Blogs. I found this book "Super-Cute Crochet" by Nicki Trench. The super cute animals in the book made me make one of mine.

The Amigurumi is originated in Japan. I tried a few things before, like a bee and a bunny. The bunny is sitting pretty on my wall.

With this book, I decided to make one today itself. Look at the cute friend of mine!

width="500px" />

She has one problem though...The head is heavier than the body. So She can't stay up by herself. When I made her sit with other buddies she is really happy. Look at her now.

Hope you would like to have a peek on this Mahalo page about "How to Crochet Amigurumi" too. There is a video about making another amigurumi doll, which I would like to make later.
